Sabiha Gökçen Airport Subway will be put into service in 2020; Ersel Göral, CEO of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport Terminal Operator OHS, stated that the foundation of the ongoing second runway construction will be laid in the first quarter of 2020, will be put into service in the second half of 2021, and Metro construction will be put into service at the end of 2020.
Stating that the Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport Metro construction will be put into service at the end of 2020, Ersel Göral said, “Metro construction has accelerated. In fact, the target was to be completed by this year. However, a delay of about one year is expected. I hope the metro line will be put into service at the end of 2020. Thus, our passengers arriving at Sabiha Gökçen Airport or traveling from Sabiha Gökçen Airport KadıköyThey will be able to reach Taksim in about 40 minutes and Taksim in about 50 minutes.
The category of the new track will be 3. In other words, landing and takeoff will be provided in all weather conditions. Sub-tunnel construction, one of the important milestones of our track construction, has been completed. Now filling processes are starting. After completion of the filling, the second track will be put into service at the end of 2020, if there is no setback when superstructure works, navigation devices and lighting equipment are completed. Our current track, which we currently use, will be under maintenance when the second track is opened. But it will not go into maintenance for 3 months as planned 6 years ago. It is envisaged to close for a maximum of 1,5-2 months. Because the airport authority HEAŞ already has maintenance services going on throughout the night. They carry out maintenance on the track with very high quality, very industrial and very suitable materials. Therefore, when the second runway is finished, 1,5-2 months of closure will be enough for us to maintain the current runway. ”
