Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum gave information about the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIA) of Kanal Istanbul at the Construction Activities Evaluation Meeting held at the Housing Development Administration.

Upon a question about Kanal Istanbul's Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIA), the Authority said that they worked with non-governmental organizations, academicians and universities to make every detail about the report, and they tried to take measures to minimize their impact on the environment.

“The Remaining Istanbul Project is the freedom project of the Bosphorus, a protection and rescue project.” Minister Institution said, continued his words as follows:

“We are nearing the end of the EIA process, as of next week, our EIA report will be published. We carry out both the EIA report and the 1 / 100.000 scaled planning process at our Ministry, with no obstacles at the point of the project. Our project will be an exemplary project unique in the world. With the understanding of horizontal urbanization, a new population of 500 thousand is designed in the region. This 500 thousand population is not only from a location outside of Istanbul, but also the areas where reserve residences will be produced, our hospitals, universities, and schools will be built. In this framework, our sensitivities are walking at the highest point. Hopefully we will be at the end of the EIA process as of next week. ”

“IT DOES NOT CREATE A CONDITION THAT WILL NEVER AFFECT THE NEED OF WATER”

Answering the question regarding the claims that Istanbul will be dehydrated if the Kanal Istanbul Project is implemented, the Minister Institution said, “About 4 percent of our water is supplied from the water resources in that region. When the project from Melen was completed, all the arguments that would meet the water need of Istanbul for 50 years were considered and designed accordingly. Therefore, the decrease of water resources in the region does not constitute a situation that will negatively affect the water need of Istanbul. ” said.

Regarding the claim that the construction sites around Kanal Istanbul were sold; “We do not allow a land swap or land rent in that region, nor did we do any projects. On the contrary, we have carried out the process for our citizens to earn more and to receive more value from the projects. In this region, there is no land condition that has been recovered before the project in any way, the project is progressing within this framework. There is such a rumor about the Qatar Sheikh. There are also 44 thousand square meters of land for him. It is a plot that was bought 6 months ago or 7, 8 months ago, so this is not true. ” used expressions.
