Two Stations Merged in İzmir Narlıdere Subway; The first two stations were connected to each other on the 7,2 kilometer line between Fahrettin Altay and Narlıdere, which is being built by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality continues the construction of Narlıdere Metro, which it laid its foundation in June 2018. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, working at seven stations on the Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere line, crossed the distance between Balçova Station and Çağdaş Station with a tunnel boring machine (TBM) and connected the two stations.

The last work of the TBM, which is also called “Giant Mole birleştir in the tunnel connecting two stations, was greeted with joy by the employees of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and subway construction. Among those who watched the exit of the tunnel from the TBMM General Secretary of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Buğra Gökçe, Deputy Secretary General Eser Atak and Mehmet Ergenekon, Head of Suburban and Rail System Investments were also present.

When the works are completed, a passenger from Bornova EVKA-3 to the subway will be able to go directly to Narlıdere. The length of the rail system in İzmir will reach 179 kilometers from 186,5.

Giant mole combined two stations

In the Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere metro project, where approximately 900 people work, more than 4 kilometers of tunnels have been opened to date. The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality opened the 3 thousand 150 meter tunnel using the classical method yöntem New Austrian Method NAT (NATM). 1,5 3 thousand 150 meters tunnel was opened annually with NATM, 1,5 meters progressed by 860 per month with TBM. The second TBM, which was built on the line, started excavation and traveled 105 meters. Thus, the total length of the tunnel opened 4 thousand 115 meters reached. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality finances the metro project with its own means without financial support from the state.

Uninterrupted transportation from Bornova to Narlıdere

Metro works quickly, progressing without disrupting the Secretary General Dr.. Bugra Gokce, “This figure shows that we are moving quite fast. So this means shortening our tunneling times. CPC will lead us to the target much faster. At the end of 2020, we plan to finish our tunnel digging. Then we do our other work and 2022, if there is a mishap, we aim to offer our subway service to the people of Izmir. This way, you can go directly from Bornova to Narlıdere by metro. ”

Izmir is preparing for the future

Stating the importance of investing in public transportation, Gökçe said, “The first priority of public transportation is the rail system, there is no other solution. Cities that build a rail system are cities that prepare for the future, and our municipality continues to prepare İzmir for the future. Our President Tunç Soyer's new target is the Buca Metro, and we are continuing our preparations for it. We aim to lay the foundation of Buca Metro in 2020, our tender preparations continue in this direction. On the other hand, preparations for the Çiğli Tram continue at great speed. We aim to start working on the Çiğli Tram in 2020," he said.
