In Buca Tunnel, which will provide uninterrupted transportation in Izmir; İzmir Metropolitan Municipality rolled up its sleeves to terminate Buca Tunnel, one of the important pillars of the project that will provide uninterrupted transportation between Buca and Bornova.

Due to the withdrawal of the related company, the tender process is completed for the immediate completion of the unfinished tunnel construction. Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, personally supervised the tunnel project yesterday, along with the viaduct will facilitate the transportation from Konak to the intercity bus terminal. The total length of the project, which will ease the urban traffic, will reach 7,1 kilometers. When the tunnel is completed, it will have the title of the longest highway tunnel in İzmir.

The longest tunnel in İzmir will be built within the second phase of the Bağlantı Connection Road Project between Buca-Onat Street and Intercity Bus Terminal and Ring Road ”. The length of the two-lane tunnel was announced as 2,5 kilometers. The height of the tunnel will be 7,5 meters and the width will be 10,6 meters.

Construction starts again this spring

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will connect Buca Ufuk Neighborhood and Bornova Çamkule with deep and double tube tunnel construction and will start again in spring of 2020 after completion of tender and project works. The 250 tree that remains on the road during construction will not be touched and no expropriation will be made.

What happened?

The tender for the tunnel was won by HGG Construction Joint Stock Company with 109 million 900 thousand 827 TL bid. However, when the contractor made an application for the liquidation of the work based on the temporary fourth article of the Law No. 4735 titled Tas Liquidation and Transfer of Contracts inşaat, the construction was stopped at the beginning of the tunnel last summer.

Where will it go?

Round-trip tunnel will be a total of four lanes, Camlik, Mehtap, Ismetpasa, Ufuk Ferahli, Ulubatli, Mehmet Akif, Respect, Atamer, Cinartepe, Center, Victory, Unity, Kosukavak, Camkule, Meriç, Yeşilova and Karacaoğlan neighborhoods over Bornova Kemalpaşa Street Connection to the bus station will be provided.
