The EIA process of the Kanal Istanbul project, designed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, is carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. A protocol was signed between IMM, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure in 2018 to plan a new city to be established around Kanal Istanbul. According to the protocol, the lands of İBB and İSKİ on the channel route will be transferred to TOKİ. Income from all areas transferred to TOKİ will also be used in the financing of the channel. The cost of the Kanal Istanbul project, which is planned to be completed in 7 years, was calculated as 75 billion TL.

According to the latest EIA report prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the cost of the Canal Istanbul project, which will pass through the districts of Küçükçekmece, Avcılar, Arnavutköy and Başakşehir, has been calculated as 45 billion TL. With the construction of the channel, the bridge, which separates Küçükçekmece Lake from the Sea of Marmara, will open approximately one kilometer. 20.75 artificial teams planned to be built in the Sea of Marmara and the Sazlıdere Yacht Harbor were abandoned.
