Funds Protocol Signed For Gaziray Vehicles Purchase; A funding protocol was signed by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality for the purchase of vehicles that will serve on the Gaziray Commuter Line. Accordingly, with the 63 million-euro fund provided by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), a total of 8 wagons (4 wagons) will be purchased.
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality of the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), between 22 billion budget under the protocol signed on May 2014, 1,5 Gaziray Commuter Rail Project was approaching the end of construction work. With the project that will create a 25-kilometer-long 16-station transportation line, 150 thousand people working in the Organized Industrial Zone will have faster and cheaper transportation.
The Metropolitan Municipality, which draws attention with the mega projects it has implemented in infrastructure municipality, has looked forward to the Gaziray Project, which has been prepared with the aim of eliminating the transportation difficulty, which is the biggest problem of the metropolitan cities, and has accelerated the works with its private initiatives. Accordingly, Gaziray Commuter Line Project credit protocol ceremony was held in Istanbul. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Cahit Turhan, Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan, Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin, Islamic Development Bank officials and many guests attended the ceremony. Trade Minister Pekcan wished that the signed protocol would be beneficial to Gaziantep.
About Gaziray Project
With the protocol signed between Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and TCDD on 22 May 2014, the construction of Gaziray Banliyo Line project started on 13 February 2017. As part of the Gaziray project, it will be planned to serve as an overpass to ensure continuity of pedestrian circulation while providing access to suburban and high-speed train vehicles in station use. As a result of the studies carried out within the framework of Gaziantep Transportation Master Plan (GUAP), it was determined that the existing railway line passing through Gaziantep does not allow pedestrian and vehicle circulation in the areas with heavy use in the city crossing and creates a barrier effect in the region. For this reason, approximately 4 kilometers of these 5 parallel lines will be taken underground by ensuring that pedestrian and vehicle transportation is safe and eliminating the barrier effect at the Culture Congress Center-Zeytinli Mahallesi, Mücahitler Budak Mahallesi, Hospitals-Hotels region crossings. With the Gaziray project, 11 overpasses and underpasses will be built. In addition, one kilometer after the last stop, Oduncular Station, Gaziray Maintenance and Storage Area, approximately 1 thousand square meters in size, will be established at the Peripheral Road border in Taşlıca. A total of 93 passengers will be transported in 1 set of vehicles planned to be used in the Gaziray Project, and 1000 sets of vehicles will serve in the first place. The project, the construction of which is still ongoing, has been realized as 8 percent physical. In the GUAP, whose target year is 77; Considering the suitability for the integration of different transportation types in terms of its location in the station area, the station area will be the main transfer center. The Main Transfer Center of Gar is expected to carry at least 2030 passengers daily in 2030. The 877-meter pedestrian crossing will take place at the Gar Ana Transfer Center, the project studies of which continue.
