Giving information about railway investments, Turhan explained that they have started High Speed Train (YHT) operation since 2009, they renewed existing conventional lines as well as new line construction.
Turhan said, “In 2020, we will prepare an efficient business model with newly purchased YHT sets and shorten the travel time by half an hour, primarily on the Ankara-Istanbul line.” said.
Turhan stated that they emphasize the liberalization of the railways and said that they aim to increase competition and increase the share of railways in passenger and freight transportation.
Turhan pointed out that there is an increase in freight transportation with the renewal in the main lines and stated that they expect the freight transportation, which was 2017 million tons in 28,5, to reach 32,6 million tons by the end of this year.
Pointing out that the share of the private sector freight in the railroad this year is approaching 11 percent, Turhan said that freight transport will increase and decrease transportation costs with electricity and signal projects.
Explaining that the Ankara-Sivas YHT line has achieved 94 percent physical progress in infrastructure construction, Turhan said, “We will start test drives in the coming days and start operating in the first half of 2020. Turhan, Ankara-Izmir high-speed railway construction work continues in all sections, said:
“We aim to complete the Polatlı-Afyonkarahisar section at the end of 2021 and the Afyonkarahisar-İzmir section at the end of 2022. We will reduce the 14-hour railway travel time between Ankara and Izmir to 3 hours and 30 minutes by YHT.
In the 56-kilometer Bursa-Gölbaşı-Yenişehir section, we have achieved 73 percent improvement in infrastructure works. With the completion of Bursa-Yenişehir at the end of 2022 and Bursa-Osmaneli in 2023, both Ankara-Bursa and Bursa-Istanbul will be approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. ”
