IMM has taken action to renew the threatening Unkapanı Junction. Within the scope of the work, the tunnel that Eminönü - Alibeyköy Tramway will pass will be built.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) decided to demolish and rebuild the Unkapanı Junction, where concrete quality and static studies were conducted in 2012. In the examination, the beams under the bridge as a result of vehicle crashes and ruptures; the iron in the concrete is exposed, some of which is broken; It was found that mold and mildew occurred in concrete and iron and water-induced damage occurred. In this context, the tender of “Unkapanı Junction Application Project Eylül was held in September 2017.
İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu ordered the construction of the project which was not started in the past right after he took office. IMM bureaucrats determined that the passage of Eminönü - Alibeyköy Tramway was not taken into consideration in the tender. Therefore, it was decided to cancel the tender.
Within the scope of “Unkapanı Junction and Eminönü - Alibeyköy Tram Tunnel”, the current project was revised within 2 months and the construction tender was completed quickly and the work was completed as soon as possible.
According to the studies, the intersection before the bridge and underpass manufacturing, turning into a rotating island, traffic will be provided without interruption. The infrastructure displacement of the region, which is seen as critical in the project, will be made by İSKİ.
A 170 meter-long 7 meter high tunnel will be constructed for the passage of Eminönü-Alibeyköy Tramway, which is under construction. There will be a pedestrian and bicycle path in the tunnel to be built before the junction. Highway and junction branches will be redesigned according to the new junction and tunnel.
