IETT opened an exhibition in Karaköy Tünel in memory of Ara Güler, a photographer and photojournalist who died last year.
The exhibition opened in the memory of Ara Güler, a duayen photographer at Karaköy Tünel, includes old Istanbul photographs taken by Güler and his own photographs.

Who is Ara Güler?
Ara Güler was born in 1928, Istanbul. The most important representative of creative photography in Turkey, Guler has gained international reputation in the field, in 1956 Time Life, Paris Match and Stern magazines 1958 assumed the Near East photojournalism. During the same period, Magnum Photos started to distribute Ara Güler photographs internationally. The British Journal of Photography Year Book, published in the UK at 1961, described him as one of the seven best photographers in the world. Güler won the title of Master of Leica in Germany at 1962. In the same year, Camera magazine, one of the most important publications in the world of photography, published a special issue about it. He took photographs of Lord Kinross's Hagia Sophia, published on 1971. The cover photo of Picasso Metamorphose et Unite, prepared by Skira Publishing for Picasso's 90 birthday, belonged to Güler.
Güler's photographs on art and art history were used by Time Life, Horizon, Newsweek and Skira Publishing. The photographs of Mimar Sinan works he has been working on for years have been published in 1992 by Arthaud Edition in France and by Thames & Hudson Publishing in the USA under the name of Sinan, Architect of Soliman the Magnificent.
