Siemens Wins San Diego Tram Supply Tender

Siemens won the supply of additional 25 vehicles for the San Diego Light Rail System and signed a contract with the San Diego operating company MTS. The trams, which will run on the 53 km long light rail line, will replace the existing high-base SD100. The lead time is 2021 year.

Designed and manufactured by Siemens Mobility at the Sacramento facility in California, S700 tram cars were equipped with new technologies. Designed with the comfort and ergonomics of passengers in mind for interior design, the vehicles have been specially designed for the disabled. Distinctive features include an open and wide subfloor with large corridors that make it easier for passengers, wheelchairs and bicycles to navigate. It has the feature of LED lighting which uses less energy and lasts longer for vehicles with Siemens technology in terms of energy efficiency.

MTS and Siemens Mobility Cooperation

The relationship between MTS and Siemens Mobility started with the order of 1980 U71 models at 2. Subsequent orders were at 1993 and 2004. In total, Siemens supplied 11 low-base S70 vehicles and delivered the new 2018 vehicles in 45 and won the supply of this new additional 70 vehicle.
