'Positive Discrimination in Women in Transportation' Application in Eskişehir Receives Appreciation

Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, which starts at 2016 year achieved another first in Turkey 'Transportation Women Positive Discrimination' application collects greatly appreciated by women. Thanks to the application, women can get off the buses wherever they want without waiting at certain times.

Metropolitan Municipality, which began throughout the country by throwing occurred harassment and rape against another first in Turkey 'Transportation Women Positive Discrimination' continues to practice. In this project, which started in 2016 in 3 or even as a pilot application and in 2017 in all lines, female passengers can land at any place between 22.00 and 24.00 hours without waiting for a bus stop. Reminding that they started the implementation in 2016, municipal authorities stated that they received very positive feedback regarding the implementation. Stating that the application was implemented in Eskişehir for the first time, the authorities recalled that cities such as Istanbul and İzmir were also introduced.

Mayor Büyükerşen underlined that they will continue to apply positive discrimination to women in every field and said, “In our country, there has been an atrocity that we will never want to hear or see. The relevant institutions of the state should take radical decisions to prevent female murders and implement them immediately. We, as local governments, should develop practices and projects in which we will recognize positive discrimination for women. In Eskişehir, we try to do this through the work of our Women's Counseling and Solidarity Center and our Equality Unit. In our Women's Counseling and Solidarity Center, we provide free psychological, legal and health counseling to women.
