Samsun Sivas Thick Railway Reopens

Samsun Kalın Railway Line, which connects two icon cities of the Independence War, namely Samsun and Sivas, started to serve in 1932. So this line was just like Irmak-Karabük -Zonguldak line and it was one of the biggest dreams of the Republic.

The railway line, which is still under test and commissioning, will be re-opened at the end of August.

With the Samsun-Sivas Project, the railway infrastructure platform width 6.70 meter shaped ground, the 38 bridge on the route was demolished and the 40 historic bridge was restored. 2 thousand 476 meter length 12 tunnel, rail, traves, ballast, scissors superstructure of the line was improved.

Passenger platforms of the stations and stations have been renewed to provide transportation for the disabled. Signaling and telecommunication facilities were established in line with EU standards. The 121 level crossing was renewed and the gate was integrated into the signaling system with automatic barrier.

259 million Euros of the project, which cost 148.6 million Euros, was covered by EU grant funds. The line, whose testing and commissioning process continues, will be opened for transportation at the end of August. With the Samsun-Sivas Kalın line, one of the two railway lines of the Black Sea opening to Anatolia, cargo transportation will be made from the ports in the region as well as the passenger.

The Samsun-Kalın railway line, the foundation of which was laid by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on September 21, 1924 and whose construction was completed in 1932, is the second railway line that began to be built by the state during the Republican Period. The construction of the line was carried out by TCDD (then the State Railways and Ports Administrative Administration and the General Directorate of State Railways). Starting from Samsun, the line passes through the provinces of Amasya and Tokat and merges with the Ankara-Kars Railway line in Kalın District of Sivas, Yıldızeli district. The line passing through steep slope areas with restrictive horizontal curves in a mountainous region is a one-way railway line without electrification and signalization. The line, which was rehabilitated in 2008, consists of 378 kilometers between Samsun and Amasya.
