Izmir's priority public transportation project, Buca Metro, has been included in the investment program. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, said that they aim to start the construction work next year and put the Buca Metro into service within five years, and thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his investment approval.

28 December 2017 was approved by the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The project was awaiting the approval of the Ministry of Development and the Presidency of Strategy and Budget. Since the approval of the Presidency was required for the investments to be realized with international credit, the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality could not bid for this tender before the “consent” came from Ankara.

Buca Metro, which will be 13,5 kilometers long and will consist of 11 stations, will serve between Üçyol Station-Dokuz Eylül University Tınaztepe Campus-Çamlıkule. The line, starting from Üçyol and consisting of 11 stations, will include Zafertepe, Bozyaka, General Asım Gündüz, Şirinyer, Buca Municipality, Butchers, Hasanağa Garden, Dokuz Eylül University, Buca Koop and Çamlıkule stations. The Buca line will meet at Üçyol Station with the second stage line running between F. Altay-Bornova, and the İZBAN line at Şirinyer Station. Train sets on this line will provide driverless service.

To be done with deep tunnel technique
Buca Subway will be constructed by using deep tunnel technique (TBM / NATM) by using TBM machine and thus, traffic, social life and infrastructure problems that may occur during tunnel construction will be minimized. In the project, Maintenance Workshop and Warehouse Building, which is designed to have a total closed area of ​​80 thousand m2, will also be constructed. In this two-storey building, the lower floor will be used as overnight stay and the upper floor will be used as vehicle maintenance and repair floor. On the upper floor there will also be administrative offices and personnel areas.
