İzmir Metropolitan Municipality decided to extend the restriction period it brought to the entrance of the motor vehicle in order to enable pedestrians to shop in a safer environment in Kemeraltı and to reduce air pollution due to the summer period. The ban on entry between 10.30 and 17.30 for vehicles has been extended from July 1 to 19.30 in the evening.

Kemeraltı Bazaar, which is one of the most important attraction centers of İzmir with its historical inns, fountains and synagogues, was restricted to the motor vehicles entering the bazaar with the priority application of pedestrian transportation initiated by the Metropolitan Municipality last year. Within the scope of the “Pedestrianization Project tarihi, the historical bazaar was closed to the motor vehicle entrance between 10.30 and 17.30 hours. Pedestrians to shop in a safer environment to make shopping and reduce the air pollution in the region implemented the citizens and artisans satisfied the application. With the arrival of the summer term of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Kemeraltı made a new decision to revive and please the citizens and the tradesmen. In accordance with the decision of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME), 1 was extended to 2019 in the evenings by extending two hours in the evening when the bazaar was closed to the motor vehicle entrance in order to enable citizens to shop more easily during the summer.

Barrier control
Entrance and exits to the pedestrian zone in Kemeraltı are controlled by barriers. The system, which is controlled by İzmir Transportation Center (İZUM), uses mobile barriers that read license plates and motor vehicles can only enter and exit within the specified time interval. Thanks to special communication systems and cameras, emergency response vehicles such as firefighters and ambulances can easily serve when needed. During the hours when motor vehicle entry is prohibited, the requirements of merchants such as goods entry and exit are provided by hand carts, cargo bicycles and electric vehicles that will not exceed the maximum speed limit (20 km) in the region. During the hours when the traffic is open, only commercial vehicles with a transport permit of up to 3 tons can enter the area. All loading and unloading operations to be carried out in the region are carried out in the traffic-free time periods of the region. On the other hand, the lowering and unloading operations that need to be done in a closed traffic period are done only at the points determined at the pedestrian zone boundaries.
