Work is ongoing for new lines to be opened in Istanbul. Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey metro line and Eminönü-Alibeyköy tram line are expected to be put into service by the end of the year.

The 233 km rail system in Istanbul carries millions every day. Istanbulites prefer rail systems because they are both comfortable and fast.

Metropolitan Municipality is making new lines in many points of Istanbul. Two of those lines are shortly completed.

2 will go to 26 per minute

One of those lines is the Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey metro line.

The first phase of the line is about to be completed and will connect 8 districts on the European side. The line starting from Mahmutbey will extend to Mecidiyeköy.

Mecidiyeköy is one of the busiest places in Istanbul. Those who drive to Mahmutbey via Mecidiyeköy will go on the road in 2 hours in 26 minutes by metro.

The first driverless subway of the European side

Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey metro line is 24 and a half kilometers long and has 19 stations. The line consists of four and eight wagons, the first driverless subway on the European side, and most importantly, more than 4 percent of domestic production. The first 8 trains were lowered to the metro line. The tests continue.

Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey line is expected to open at the end of 2019.

Over 300 vehicles to be used during the day can determine all routes at the press of a button, and can automate all transport activities without a driver, without a driver.

The second line to be opened by the end of the year is “Eminönü-Eyüpsultan-Alibeyköy Tram Line”.

“The tram line will start from Eminönü and go to Alibeyköy. It takes 1 and a half hours from Eminönü to Alibeyköy during the day, but those who use the tram will be able to go in 33 minutes. The last station will be Alibeyköy Cep Bus Terminal.

It will take its energy from the ground system

In fact, an open-to-cable catenary system will be applied to the ground, energy-embedded structure will be used.
