British Serco Group to Operate Dubai Metro by 2021

The Road and Transport Administration (RTA) signed a contract with the British Serco Group of Dubai Metro, extending operation and maintenance by September 2021. The new contract covers the operation and maintenance of the Dubai Metro Red Line Extension Project (Route 2020). This extension covers 15 km and connects 7 stations (5 upgraded and 2 underground), and the test run of the service is expected to begin in February 2020.

Dubai Metro lines currently have a network length of 75 km, will increase to 90 km with the Red Line expansion, and will operate at busy times with over 120 trains.

The total value of the fixed base wage for the two-year contract is approximately AED 680 million (approximately £ 140 million equivalent).

Mattar Al Tayer, RTA General Director and Chief Executive Officer, signed the contract on behalf of RTA and Hon. Rupert Soames, Serco Group Chief Executive Officer, represented Serco during the signing ceremony. Participating in the ceremony were State Minister of Trade and Export Promotion Minister Baroness Rona Fairhead and Britain's Ambassador to the UAE Patrick Moody.

Al Tayer said, “Serco achieved its operational performance levels in Dubai Metro with a high 99,9% train service and a 99,8% minute. It broke 2018 million travel records in 204. RTA also had the latest technologies in the railway management industry. He contributed to the acquisition of these indicators. ” said.

“Within the scope of the contract, the Company will provide operation and maintenance services to Route 2020, which includes both lines of the Dubai Metro and the extension of the Red Line to the Expo region. The contract also covers all metro assets such as trains and railways. It will also address the provision of first-class passenger transit services customized according to daily riding demands. ”

“The scope of the contract, besides collecting the benefits of operating and maintaining the Dubai Metro wage systems and selling and refilling nol cards, is also willing to win the RAT, the Emirate and knowledge transfer, as well as recruiting and training citizens to achieve a specific Emidation goal. International expertise in the operation and maintenance of rail systems is a new area for the region. ” (Wam.a A)
