Train Crash in Congo: '24 Dead Mostly Children'

24 people, mostly children, were killed and 31 injured in a train crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to the information received, a freight train carrying passengers, including children, was derailed in Bena Leka settlement, 140km north of Kananga, one of the main cities of Kasai province.

24 people lost their lives and 31 was injured as a result of the derailment of the train which was overthrown by the bridge over the Luembe River.

Search and rescue work in the wreck continues.

The third railway accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo in about a month. Five people were killed in the passenger train accident at the station in Kalenda last month.
