Metro Train Story of No: 518

İzmir Metro A.Ş, one of the companies of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, signed a new success story. The company's 19-yearly experienced team has created a new vehicle for the system by creating a subway vehicle that is not available after a devoted work.

Carrying out the maintenance, repair and cleaning works of the subway vehicles, the "Department of Vehicles" has brought the experience of the scrapped eye back to the feet while gaining the experience of assembling the subway car from scratch. The effort made to bring the vehicle registered as “train number 518” into life in the system has become known as the “story of 518” among the employees.

In order to examine the vehicle, which is ready to serve passengers and celebrate the success of the team, all staff gathered in the workshop building of the Izmir Metro. Congratulating everyone who contributed one by one for its success, İzmir Metro A.Ş. General Manager Sönmez Alev stated that this accumulation of knowledge will carry Izmir Metro to greater technical goals.

3 years ago, the container transported from a business outside the line with the contact of the subway car, 518 numbered train could not be used. The experienced team started by examining the damaged vehicle before work. Damage records were removed, the situation was not plausible. It would be necessary to do much more than maintenance and repair, almost zero to make a vehicle. However, İzmir Metro A.Ş. The team was mobilized with great willingness to work. First and foremost, the interior and exterior of the vehicle were completely removed. The process continued with the correction of the bodywork. Then the vehicle's interior equipment, compressor, inter-segment signal wiring harnesses, air conditioners, interior and exterior coatings, seats and painting operations were completed and the vehicle was lowered onto renewed bogies. All mechanical and electrical connections are completed here; traction motor, bellows and air conditioning connections were made. At the end of this challenging process, the vehicle was now ready for the test phase.

Meanwhile, the innovation in the design of the doors and windows of the 518 numbered vehicle, the interior and exterior structure of which is completely renewed and which is one of the first generation ABB vehicles of İzmir Metro Inc., did not go unnoticed. At the end of the static and dynamic tests carried out by the expert teams on the line in the workshop and outside the hours, the vehicle has become able to travel with passengers. The train, worth approximately 12 million TL ($ 2.2 million), is 1.430.800 TL. As a result of cost and 2.877 man / hour of work, it has been added to the Izmir Metro fleet as a brand new vehicle.
