Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's fleet of electric buses and install solar power plant, becoming a reference for many municipalities in Turkey and the world. The International Association of Public Transporters (UITP), which has thousands of members from 90 different countries, also hosted the training program on electric bus hosted by the ESHOT General Directorate.

International Association of Public Transport (UITP) organized by and Turkey as well as the world takes place at the participants from the different countries where electric buses training program, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality ESHOT Headquarters was hosted. The experiences gained in İzmir, where 20 electric bus fleets operate, were shared with the presentations of international trainers. With this training, participants were presented with a comprehensive overview of the city strategy for city transport networks, technology selection and battery selection, and bus purchases, and the electrical solution to the implementation and operation of the system. Participants who came to Izmir for education also examined the electric bus project that was deemed worthy of the “Environment and Sustainable Development Award” by UITP and the solar energy system supporting this project. At the end of the training program, participants were awarded certificates by Kader Sertpoyraz, Turgay Akkaya and Tufan Eker, the deputy general managers of ESHOT.

The 20 electric buses, which were put into service last April, have carried a total of 5 million passengers so far. In this way, 784 thousand liters of diesel fuel was prevented and 81 percent savings were achieved per kilometer compared to diesel vehicles. Thus, 2 thousand 103 tons of CO² emission was prevented.
