Over Noise in Mersin

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, in order to protect the health of the inhabitants of the city, to improve the quality of life of the city, one of the most important problems of Mersin is the implementation of the Action Plan for noise pollution.

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center in Mersin 's Noise Reduction in Sensitive Areas of Mersin, the Development of Alternative Scenarios Project Noise Action Work Plan began in 2016. In May of 2018 Metropolitan Municipality completed the noise map and action plan and received a valid note from the Ministry.

The 2 project, which was completed in the year, started by identifying the places where Mersin's noise score was high. Then, noise sources, noise scores, noise scenarios, noise reduction solutions and strategic suggestions were prepared to reduce noise. The plan was implemented not only in the center, but also in the districts where traffic and population is dense.

In the action plan, all details were taken into consideration, while the amount of noise reduction, number of persons, cost-benefit analysis and similar technical details were made. In this sense, Mersin province of Turkey Noise Plan is seen as the most comprehensive and detailed action plan.

Noise causes depression

In the researches, the biggest noise problem of Mersin was determined as traffic with 90 percentage. One of the main reasons for this is that according to TUIK data, the number of registered vehicles in the city of 2018 in 599 by the end of April leads to noise pollution by reaching 668 bin XNUMX. Again, the data shows that noise pollution makes people nervous and stressful, causing symptoms such as fatigue and depression.

For this purpose, the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality started to implement the Transport Action Plan in order to improve the quality of life, prevent health problems and create a happy city. The plan began with the measurement of the noise score of the schools, streets and streets and the preferred places. 3 was evaluated in the category and the measurement was evaluated as morning, evening and night. Work has been started to revise the transportation conditions that cause noise pollution. Accordingly, the traffic speed limits were determined, the road surface was covered with stone mastic asphalt, the application of strip and direction width changes, the formation of noise barriers, the directing of heavy vehicles to the motorway, and most importantly, the preparation of transportation projects which encouraged public transportation, many of them were implemented.

Other noise pollution factors were determined as environmental factors such as entertainment and industry. Yenişehir, Mezitli, Silifke and Tarsus took the highest rank in the noise pollution rates in the entertainment areas. In addition, the Action Plan was designed to include new development plans. Thus, only noise pollution will not be prevented, measures will be taken to protect the quiet areas.
