Transport and Infrastructure Minister M. Cahit Turhan stated that the flight control tests of the ILS system, which will enable the planes to land smoothly even in weather conditions, where the visibility is reduced to zero, at the Istanbul New Airport, which will be opened by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 29, has been completed.
Turhan said that the first phase of the Istanbul New Airport, which will be the biggest in the world when it comes into service, will be put into service with a ceremony by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on 29 October, and the work at the airport in question continues at great speed.
Reminding that the airport will be completed in four phases, Turhan, in Phase 1, has a main terminal building with an annual capacity of 90 million passengers, a main air traffic control tower, 60 meters wide in the direction of north-south, 380 kilometers and 3,75 kilometers of equipment that can be landed on A4,1 aircraft. The runway stated that there are a total of 2 aircraft parking areas, 114 of which are aircraft approaching the main terminal, an indoor parking area with a capacity of 347 thousand vehicles, with airport support facilities providing hangar, cargo / warehouse, catering, and ground handling services.
Turhan emphasized that the tests of the 1 ILS systems installed on all runways to be opened in the first phase of the Istanbul New Airport were completed with the flight control aircraft of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) with laboratory facilities, and continued:
“ILS, which is defined as the Instrument Landing System that allows planes to approach and land safely, especially in foggy, rainy and snowy weather where the cloud ceiling is low and visibility is limited, will serve in the category 'CAT III' at Istanbul New Airport. The ILS system, which guides the planes horizontally and vertically, allows them to automatically land on the runway, allows for a comfortable approach and landing as well as safety when visibility is high. ”
Turhan pointed out that thanks to the said system, the pilots will be safely approached and landed at Istanbul New Airport even when visibility is limited or absent due to fog, cloud and rain, and all navigation aids, radar and communication systems under the responsibility of DHMİ of the airport. He noted that he was ready to serve.
