By the International Transport and Logistics Service Providers Association UTIKAD, FIATA (International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations-Federation of International Transport Organizations Associations) and OSJD (Organization for Cooperation of Railways-Railways Cooperation Organization), 11-12 July 2018 Combined Transport Coordination Meeting was held at Istanbul Crowne Plaza Hotel-Florya between UTIKAD.
“New Opportunities in European-Asian-European Multimodal Transportation” were evaluated at two-day meetings, with 18 representatives from 55 countries. Hosted by UTİKAD and representing UTİKAD, UTİKAD Vice Chairman and FIATA Senior Vice President Turgut Erkeskin, UTİKAD Board Member and FIATA Railway Working Group Member İbrahim Dölen and UTİKAD General Manager Cavit Uğur attended the meetings in Europe-Asia-Europe railways. Regarding the lines, the state railway representatives of the countries and private sector stakeholders shared the future.

While presenting the facts and expectations regarding the development of Eurasian transportation corridors, the current situation of the Southern Corridor, which stretches from Europe to Iran and from Iran to China, was also evaluated.
The second panel on OS Combined and Multimodal Transportation Practices and Expectations ğ was moderated by Zagoida Aspayeva, Head of the OSJD Freight Transport Commission. The panel; The experience of international organizations in the field of combined and multimodal transport, the challenges and practical solutions in European-Asian-European combined and multimodal transport, the interaction of railway enterprises with container train operators, transport companies and national transport agencies associations were discussed.
Intense interest of the participants continued on the second day of the OSJD / FIATA Combined Transport Coordination Meeting. OSJD Transport Policy and Development Strategy Specialist Zurab Kozmava was the moderator of the first panel on "Facilitating Border Crossings in Combined and Multimodal Transport" on July 12. The panel; The use of information technologies, electronic data exchange, use of documents in all procurement processes, benefits from the use of OSJD documents (SMGS and CIM / SMGS documents) and strategies to be developed for effective logistics solutions were discussed.
In the last panel moderated by Turgut Erkeskin, FIATA Senior Vice President and Vice Chairman of UTİKAD, “Legal Status of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Line Including Railways of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Customs Administrations” was evaluated. The panel; The capacity of Silk Road from China, South Asia, South-West and Southeast Asia to Europe over the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea, with the hopes of providing additional flow of business areas and cargoes on the road passing through the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea Europe-Asia-Europe traffic subject titles set the agenda.
The panel also assessed the reasons for failing to reach the expected transit freight traffic with the opening of Turkey's Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line. While it is stated that the northern corridor passing through Russia for trade between China and Europe is very developed and actively used; BTK corridor through Turkey rather than the middle of the route from the Caspian to the Black Sea was also pointed out that after reaching Europe. reasons to be preferred to the previous route through Turkey representatives of different countries; from China and the Caspian Sea or connected to Turkey via Iran, Central and South corridors Van Lake and the problems in the Marmara transition / delays and the sea / lake crossings laid out as interruption due. For this reason, it was emphasized that this route is preferred although the Black Sea crossing constitutes 30% of the total cost of the line from Europe to Iran.
At the end of the interactive panels, question-answer sections were started. After the current situation evaluations, it was stated that the report to be created as a result of the coordination meeting, where the solution suggestions of the participants were received, will be shared with the sector. In addition, it was stated that it would be beneficial for the sector for UTİKAD to participate in the annual event organized by OSJD / FIATA.
