Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu supervised the construction of the 7-kilometer route consisting of Izmir's longest tunnel, viaduct and highway crossings that will provide the Konak-Buca-Bornova connection. The depth of the tunnel, where 43 construction machines work 7 × 24, will be reduced to 70 meters. This “express” road, which will cost 183 million lira, will be a new breath for urban transportation.
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu examined the "deep double tube tunnel" excavation works of the "express road" project that will connect the Homeros Boulevard in Buca to the Bus Terminal in Bornova. Mayor Kocaoğlu, wearing the boots and entering the tunnel, underlined the safe work, especially during his meeting with the construction team. Mayor Kocaoğlu said that the 7-kilometer route consisting of the longest tunnel, viaduct and highway crossings of İzmir is an important transportation investment that will provide Konak-Buca-Bornova connection.
43 work machines working 7 × 24
While the excavations at the Buca construction site are being carried out with great care, it was reported that Bornova will start tunneling operations as soon as possible. Tunnel works started in the direction of Buca are carried out at a depth of 15.50 meters in the left tube and 13.50 meters in the right tube. The maximum depth is planned to decrease to 70 meters in some areas. 43 workers in the tunnel, with 84 machines, work 7 × 24 in shifts. The tunnel is built with the "New Austrian Tunneling Method" (NATM). Possible soil mobility is closely monitored in the project with daily geotechnical measurements.
Having made 75.5 million lira expropriation for the Homeros Boulevard section, the Metropolitan Municipality has already expropriated 26 million lira for the Buca Tunnel and 10 million TL for the viaducts. Thanks to this project, the vehicles that will pass through the 2.5 km "longest highway tunnel in the city" will be able to reach the bus station and the ring road without getting into heavy traffic. In Buca Tunnel, the length of the right tube will be 2 thousand 543 meters and the length of the left tube will be 2 thousand 508 meters.
Two separate construction sites
The other one in Buca and the other one for the giant investment in deep double tube tunnel-viaduct-overpass / overpass and road construction, which is the continuation of Homer Boulevard (Flying Road), which was put into service in recent years Altındağ, including two construction sites, the Metropolitan Municipality, the exit of the tunnel (Altındağ) section of the total 206 bored piles. 3 overlay was performed on the tunnel. In the tunnel entrance (Buca) section, the construction of the foot bridge of the highway bridge, which will provide connection with Onat Street, is completed and the concrete works are finished.
Current situation in viaduct construction
Within the scope of this large investment, which is critical for city traffic, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality also constructs two viaducts for connection to the bus station, 2 vehicle underpasses at the intersection of Kemalpaşa Caddesi and Kamil Tunca Boulevard and 1 vehicle overpass for the bus terminal connection. 280 of 22 bored piles for the first viaduct, which is 144 meters long and consists of 50 columns; For the second viaduct, which is 915 meters long and consists of 35 columns, 326 of 248 bored piles were completed. The viaducts will connect to the 2.5-kilometer double tube tunnel and provide access to the bus station.
Where will it go?
With the tunnel that will serve as 2 lanes - 2 arrivals with a total of four lanes, Çamlık, Mehtap, İsmetpaşa, Ufuk Ferahlı, Ulubatlı, Mehmet Akif, Saygı, Atamer, Çınartepe, Merkez, Zafer, Birlik, Koşkavak, Çamkule, Meriç, Yeşilova and Karacaoğlan neighborhoods A connection will be provided from Bornova Kemalpaşa Street to the bus station.
7 viaduct-2 underpass-2 overpass and road arrangements cost 1 million TL with the tunnel on the 183 kilometer.
The longest tunnel
The 2.5 km deep double tube tunnel that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started to open between Buca Ufuk District and Bornova Çamkule also has the feature of being the “longest road tunnel that is all within the city limits”. The people of Izmir are still using Bayraklı 1 Tunnel 320 meter, Konak Tunnel 1674 meter, Bayraklı The 2 Tunnel is 1865 meters long.
