For the construction of the TBM (Tunnel Machine) shaft and the construction of Balçova Station, which will be opened by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality as part of the Narlıdere Metro construction works, a part of the side road connecting Mithatpaşa Street to the Beach Boulevard at the crossroads of Ata Avenue will be closed on Saturday.
The rail system network of İzmir, which reaches 180 kilometers, continues to grow. Following the contract signed between İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and the contractor firm, the foundation of the section between Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere District Governorate, which is the 4th stage of İzmir Light Rail System, was initiated. 7,2 km line will be passed through “deep tunnel” using TBM (tunneling machine). In this way, traffic, social life and infrastructure problems that may occur during construction will be minimized. It will cost 1 billion 27 million TL and will consist of 7 stations, including Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Narlıdere, Siteler and District Governorate.
Temporary arrangements in traffic
Traffic arrangements will be made in some parts of the line route in accordance with the UKOME Decision for the TBM shaft and Balçova station to be opened within the scope of ongoing works. In the first stage of the traffic arrangement that will take place in two stages, some of the side road connecting Mithatpaşa Street to Mustafa Kemal Sahil Boulevard at the entrance of Balçova Ata Caddesi will be closed to vehicle traffic. The first stage of traffic regulation will begin on Saturday evening, July 14.
In the second stage, the entrance junction of Mithatpaşa Street and Ata Caddesi will be minimized, and the motorway of Mithatpaşa Street will be displaced with this region. In both stages, the trees in the area will be transported to different points within the same area with special equipment. After the completion of the project, landscaping will be done in the region.
Since the construction works will start in Kızıl Wing Park, where the Contemporary Station is located after Balçova Station, the 3-lane road on Mithatpaşa Street will be preserved and necessary road arrangement works will be carried out. Some trees here will be taken with special equipment and moved to different points in the area. After the completion of the studies, environmental arrangements will be made in this area.
With the completion of all works in 42 months, İzmir Metro will start to provide uninterrupted transportation until Narlıdere.
