Istanbul Traffic will Relieve ATAK

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has developed intelligent transportation systems to ease traffic in Istanbul and has reduced the traffic density by at least% 15 with the Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATAK).
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality continues its smart urbanization investments without slowing down. Istanbul, which is one of the largest cities in the world, tried to relieve urban traffic and added a new one to its smart transportation systems.

U ATAK ”AT 80 KAVŞAKTA

The Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATAK) was developed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Istanbul Informatics and Intelligent Urban Technologies (ISBAK) for the purpose of reducing the density of traffic in Istanbul and accelerating the flow of traffic. At present, Ayvansaray Junction, Aksaray Small Langa Junction, Edirnekapi Road Maintenance Junction, Baltalimani Kemik Hospital Junction, Atakoy 1. ATAK system was installed at 80 junction including Section Interchange. It is planned that this number will reach 200 in a short time and then the system will be implemented at all junctions of Istanbul.

COMPLETELY LOCAL

system widely used in developed countries began to be applied first and only one in Istanbul, Turkey. The software of ATAK system, which is currently used, was developed by local engineers. However, the hardware of the system was imported from abroad. Then, IBB started to work with local and national facilities to produce hardware. After the completion of the works, a full local and national ATAK system will be established at the intersection near 2 bin 250 in Istanbul. In this way, nearly half of the cost of equipment imported from abroad will be saved.

ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM

According to the traffic flow data obtained from the intersections where ATAK system was implemented, the time delay in traffic decreased by 15 and 30 percent. 20 reduction was recorded in travel time. Traffic flow increased by 35 percent. With the decrease in the time lost in traffic, the percentage of fuel spent has dropped by 15. In this way, an annual average of 700 thousand worth of fuel was saved at only one intersection. The average annual savings of 1 billion 700 thousand TL has been achieved. CO2 emission, which measures the emission of carbon-containing fuels into the atmosphere, was reduced by 18 and environmental benefits were achieved.

HOW DOES IT DOES ATAK?

ATAK system provides real-time traffic management according to the intense vehicle intensities at intersections. First, magnetic sensors at the intersections detect the number of vehicles. It sends this information to the traffic signal controller at the junction. The controller sends this information to the ATAK system, which is immediately in the traffic control center. The system receives density information at the intersection. By using real-time optimization methods, it calculates how long the green light should light in which intersection at which junction. As a result, the vehicles that cause traffic congestion are separated from the area where the density is left without waiting or waiting for less. Traffic traffic is accelerated by intervening in real time with ATAK.
