President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has ratified the protocol for the USA to carry out private cargo transportation to Afghanistan through Aktau and Kurık ports in the Caspian Sea.

According to the news of the Kazahstanskaya Pravda newspaper, President Nazarbayev signed the law on the approval of the protocol regarding the amendments to the "Agreement on the provision of commercial rail transit between the USA and Kazakhstan through the territory of Kazakhstan".

The protocol envisages the addition of Kazakhstan's Aktau and Kurık ports to the US-specific cargo transport route to Afghanistan.

An agreement between Kazakhstan and the USA on "The transportation of private cargo over the territory of Kazakhstan" was signed on 20 June 2010.

In September, the two sides signed the protocol for the amendments to the agreement.
