Driverless and Electric Vehicle of IMM Introduced

In the "World Cities Congress Istanbul 2018" (World Smart Cities Congress 2018) hosted by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the presentation of the driverless electric autonomous vehicle developed by IETT was made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mevlüt Uysal. Faruk Özlü, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and Governor of Istanbul Vasip Şahin participated in the program.

At the Eurasia Art and Demonstration Center in Yenikapı, the driverless electric autonomous vehicle developed by IETT with the vision of İBB 2023 was introduced. The protocol members cut the ribbon of the vehicle together.

Giving information about the produced vehicle, President Uysal said that IETT General Directorate converted one of the vehicles used in the Beyoğlu nostalgic tram in the past into an electric vehicle. President Uysal continued as follows: “When we say electric vehicle, only passenger vehicles should not come to mind. Public transport should also have an important place in electric vehicles. Public transport is one of the indispensable vehicles of every city. Surely the metro can be a solution in this regard, but in any case, if there will be a public transportation vehicle in the cities, our IETT General Directorate is an important step in transforming public transportation vehicles into electricity. Our goal is to cooperate with the university, the private sector and the public, and in the coming period, in a short period of time, we will reach an Istanbul where some of our IETT's electric, but also driverless vehicles operate. As a municipality, each unit carries out serious work on new solutions within its own structure. ”

Uysal stated that he wanted to announce that they wanted to declare that they were longing for such a vehicle in a short time, and wished that the electric and driverless autonomous vehicle would be beneficial to Istanbul.

After the speeches, members of the protocol took a ride and took a tour in the open area.

The autonomous vehicle, which has the feature of being a minibus-style wheeled electric and without driver, will serve in the airport and traffic areas in the first place.
