Europe's first LNG fuel train starts testing

Spain's TSO Reganosa and state-owned high-speed rail operator, Renfe, launched a four-month test run of Europe's first LNG-fueled passenger trains running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) instead of fuel.

Europe's first LNG-fueled train test started with the opening ceremony attended by the Spanish Minister of Development Íñigo de la Serna, Minister of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda Álvaro Nadal. Tests on the line between Mieres and Figaredo will analyze the possible environmental and economic advantages that natural gas can provide in rail transport using non-electrified lines.
