The Croatian Railway Authority HZ Infrastruktura announced that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Croatia and the ADIF of the Spanish Railway Authority to cooperate in the development of a Mediterranean railway corridor, one of the EU's nine transport corridors. The treaty was signed in Madrid with the participation of Nikolina Brnjac, State Secretary of Transport, Infrastructure and Maritime Affairs of Croatia.
The two countries decided to cooperate in the planning of the railway sector, in the implementation of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), in the development of intermodal transportation and cargo terminals, as well as in planning, designing, building and maintaining railway energy, signaling and communication systems.
The Croatian Delegation also met with representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Transport and Construction to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the future expansion of the Mediterranean corridor.
In addition to Croatia's proposal to include the Ploce Port in the Mediterranean railway corridor, Croatia wants to include the Lika railway in the project for the expansion of the Mediterranean Railway Corridor, thereby ensuring that its ports in Zadar, Sibenik and Split are linked to the corridor.
