With the excavation from the project, it is planned to build 3 groups of islands in the Marmara Sea. The first group will be 186 hectares of island. The second group will be 155 hectares of island. The third group will cover 104 hectares of land. The rest of the excavation will be used to fill the Black Sea coast and to build a new shore to Terkos Lake.

The Canal Istanbul route starts from the isthmus that separates the Sea of ​​Marmara from Küçükçekmece Lake. Kanal Istanbul, which will pass through the Altınşehir and Şahintepe neighborhoods and continue along the Sazlıdere Dam Basin, will reach the Black Sea from the east of Terkos Lake near the Terkos and Durusu neighborhoods. The project area is within the boundaries of Arnavutköy (28,6 km) Küçükçekmece (7 km), Başakşehir (6,5 km) and Avcılar (3,1 km).


The project is planned to be implemented with an investment of 65 billion TL. 6 thousand people during the construction phase, the operation phase of the operation of a thousand 500 people are envisaged. Depending on the depth of the channel is expected to excavate about 1,5 billion cubic meters. It is estimated that 115 million cubic meters will be produced by sea and bottom survey.


As part of the project, a container load port will be built both in the Marmara Sea and the Black Sea. The port to the Black Sea will be 4,8 kilometers long. A logistics center will be established on an area of ​​500 hectares. 3. It will be integrated with the airport and railway. Yacht harbors with a capacity of 200 boats to Küçükçekmece Lake and 860 boats to Sazlıdere will be built.


Land and rail transportation will be provided with 6 bridges that will pass over Kanal Istanbul. 6 bridges will also be built for the crossing of wild animals. Apart from the bridges, there will be emergency docks in the canal. Breakwaters, lighthouses and waiting areas will be built in the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea.


Construction of the ongoing route of horizontal engineering is expected to be completed in 5 year. When the project is completed, the 350 will be suitable for the passage of DTW-sized ships. The economic life will be 100 years.
