Tram Square to Izmir

The Mithatpaşa Highway Underpass, which was built by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, has come to an end. The underpass, which was completed by overcoming 1500 bored piles, is planned to be opened to traffic as of the weekend. On the other hand, one of the biggest squares of İzmir that integrates with the sea will be built in the area gained by taking the vehicle traffic underground.

The underpass construction designed by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality on Mustafa Kemal Beach Boulevard in order to bring the vehicle traffic underground and bring a new square to the city has been completed. It's time for the asphalting work and the drawing of the road lines. With the last preparations, "Mithatpaşa Highway Underpass" is planned to be opened to vehicle traffic as of the weekend. Izmir's new highway underpass will also make a difference visually. Special coatings with wave patterns referring to the "İzmirDeniz" project will decorate the walls of the underpass. The new highway underpass will bear the name of the great statesman Mithat Pasha, who gave his name to the district where it was built, the high school and the park he passed.

Seamless transport to the sea
The road underpass, which is overcome with 500 bored piles below sea level, will be put into service after a difficult construction process and the next stage will be started. Within the scope of the "İzmirdeniz - Coastal Design Project" initiated with the aim of redesigning the coastline extending from Mavişehir to İnciraltı, the area of 71 square meters in front of Mithatpaşa Park, which was gained by taking the traffic underground, will be transformed into a large city square. Thus, the citizens will be able to reach the sea without interruption.

Tramway Challenge
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality had largely completed the line constructions of Konak Tramway within the scope of the works carried out in three branches on Mustafa Kemal Beach Boulevard. With the introduction of the highway underpass, rail laying works will be carried out quickly in the square. After the completion of all these works, İzmir will gain a very special square, which makes the historical texture on the land side visible and trams run over it, costing about 20 million TL. Together with the highway underpass, which cost 116 million TL, the entire works will cost 136 million TL.
