1915 Passes the Wind Test in Canakkale Bridge

Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan stated that as a result of their evaluations, the maximum wind speed in the Dardanelles is seen to be 100-120 kilometers per hour, “We have carried out a test of 288 kilometers per hour, which will never occur in reality today. We saw that there is not the slightest problem both in the section and the tower in the tests. ” said.

Arslan participated in the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge Tower Wind Tunnel test held at the FORCE Technology Test Laboratory in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Minister Arslan, in his statement after cross-section and tower wind tests, said that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is a project covering the 101-kilometer motorway section of both the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Highway Project.

Arslan, who pointed out that the 18 Çanakkale Bridge, the foundation of which was laid on 1915 March with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, broke the world record in terms of length in suspension bridges, with a middle span of 2 meters, 23 reported that the foundation of the two towers of the bridge, which is 770 thousand 365 meters long, will descend to the sea floor at a depth of about 680 meters, and the height of the steel tower will be about 4 meters.

Arslan stated that 2023 represents the 100th anniversary of the Republic and 318 represents the 18th of the third month. When evaluated by other highway projects under construction, the bridge, the western part of the Aegean, Western Mediterranean and Central Anatolia, Thrace including Adana-Konya axis and He stated that he would connect to Europe without interruption and provide access to target markets in freight and passenger transportation without using the Bosphorus and Bosphorus.

Noting that the project will accelerate social and economic progress in Thrace and Western Anatolian Region, where the institutions related to the important service, industrial and tourism sectors of the country are concentrated, Arslan will also accelerate the freight movements of the European Union countries and especially Bulgaria and Greece from the Aegean, West. He stated that he would descend to Anatolia and the Western Mediterranean.

"Thus, we will also integrate the ports, railway and air transportation systems in the Marmara and Aegean regions into road transportation systems." he spoke.

With the completion of Gebze-İzmir Motorway, Edirne-Kınalı-Istanbul-Ankara Motorway, İzmir-Aydın Motorway and the highways in Marmara and Aegean regions will be integrated with this project, Arslan, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, North Marmara Motorway, Istanbul-Izmir Motorway, Osmangazi He said that the Bridge and the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge would form a highway ring in the Marmara Region.

Arslan stated that the environmental factors such as emission increase and noise pollution caused by traffic congestion will be minimized and he emphasized that the number of traffic accidents caused by the inadequacy of the existing road geometric standard will be reduced significantly.

Minister Arslan stated that the bridge is planned to be opened on 29 October 2023.

“Negotiations about expropriation will start on December 15”

In addition to Çanakkale Bridge, Arslan has 2 approach viaducts, 4 reinforced concrete viaducts, 10 underpass bridges, 33 overpass bridges, 6 bridges, 43 underpasses, 115 grilles of various sizes, intersections on 12 state roads, 4 highways. stated that a service facility, 2 maintenance operation centers and 6 fee collection stations will be built.

Arslan pointed out that the sea works for the geological and geotechnical surveys of the dry and wet ponds have been completed so far.

“Photogrammetry mapping along with the Çanakkale-Malkara Highway route and the design and project design of the highway have been completed. Procedures related to expropriation studies have been started, plans have been approved and as of 15 December, we will begin negotiations with our expropriation-related interlocutors. The most important feature of the project is the design work of the bridge and approach viaducts. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge wind tunnel test preparation works are completed. The first of the three-stage test, the wind tunnel tests of the decks were carried out in Canada on a scale of 1/225, with successful results. Second, we performed the wind tunnel tests of the towers today. The third stage will be the wind tunnel test of the full bridge, including the decks and towers, with a smaller scale 1/170 scale in China in May-June next year. Thus, after the tests are completed and sufficient and suitable sections are determined, application projects and detailed calculations of the projects will be started. ”

Today, successful tests have been obtained from the tests said Arslan, Osmangazi, Yavuz Sultan, 15 July Martyrs and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges in the wind speed of 120 per hour, he said the traffic is stopped.

Arslan said, “The wind averages formed in the 100-year Çanakkale Strait were taken into account and the maximum wind speed was found to be 100-120 kilometers per hour. We carried out a test of the wind speed of 288 kilometers per hour, which will never occur in reality today. We saw that there is not the slightest problem both in the section and the tower in the tests. said.

“Dry pool construction started”

Stating that the project was prepared by Cowi company in Denmark and that the independent audit was carried out by Arup Jakobsen, Arslan noted that these operations were carried out in the place where the strongest winds and strongest sea currents exist.
