Ahmet Arslan, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, said that smart roads will be the way to the future in terms of providing an interactive communication environment between the road and the vehicle, maximizing the traffic safety and travel comfort factor.

In his speech at the opening of the 8th Road Traffic Safety Symposium and Exhibition held at ATO Congresium, Arslan said that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, the country has come a long way in terms of traffic safety.

Arslan stated that they have redesigned the country traffic in the last 15 year with the smart roads they built and the smart transportation systems and that they have provided many improvements to increase the human life and comfort.

Arslan pointed out that while 6 provinces were connected to each other by divided roads in the past, now 76 provinces are connected to each other and emphasized that in 2019, 81 cities will be connected to each other by divided roads.

Pointing out that divided roads eliminate the risk of “head-on” collisions, Arslan stated that they have carried out many studies to increase traffic safety and comfort. Arslan said that the accident rate caused by the road defect was almost zero.

Arslan stated that with the increase in road comfort, fuel and time savings were achieved, and 17 billion liras were saved in the year with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and maintenance costs.

Explaining that they established the Transportation Electronic Tracking and Control System (U-ETDS), Arslan stated that for the first time, this system will have the opportunity to follow the movements of passengers, cargo and goods.
