During the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's Konak Tram rail laying and infrastructure works, the works were suspended for a week in a 10-meter section due to the marble historical artifacts emerging from Şair Eşref Boulevard in a section of 80 meters from 50 centimeters below the ground.
The railway laying and infrastructure works of Konak Tram stopped due to the historical marbles found on 8 and 9 August. After the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality notified the situation to the Izmir Archeology Museum, he investigated the historical artefact in the Agora Excavation Directorate. It was stated that there are finds belonging to the historical old port and surrounding buildings in the region, and that these are underground due to urbanization. In the meeting held on August 1, İzmir Cultural and Natural Heritage Regional Board No.15 decided that it is okay to document the artifacts and carry them to the museum for protection. After the documentation work, the tramway work will continue in the 50-meter section.
