During the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's Konak Tram rail laying and infrastructure works, the works were suspended for a week in a 10-meter section due to the marble historical artifacts emerging from Şair Eşref Boulevard in a section of 80 meters from 50 centimeters below the ground.

Konak Tram rail laying and infrastructure works stopped due to the historical marbles found on 8 and 9 August 2017. After the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality reported the situation to the Izmir Archeology Museum, he made an examination in the historical artifact area located in the Agora Excavation Department. It was stated that there were finds belonging to the historical old port and surrounding structures in the region, and that they were buried underground due to urbanization. İzmir No. 1 Regional Board of Cultural and Natural Heritage decided at the meeting held on 15 August that there would be no harm in documenting the artifacts and transferring them to the museum for preservation. Tram work will continue in the 50-meter section after the documentation work.
