İZBAN celebrates its seventh anniversary

İzmir Banliyo System İZBAN, which forms the basis of public transportation in İzmir, has left its 7th year behind. With the 50-50 percent partnership between the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and the Ministry of Izmir and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, İZBAN started its pre-operation on 30 August 2010 in the north-south axis of İzmir.

İZBAN, which started to serve with 24 wagons and 31 stations, increased the number of wagons to 99 at the end of the first operating year. Today, İZBAN has a huge fleet of 219 wagons. İZBAN, carrying 6 million passengers in the first 2.5-month period, reached a total of 7 million passengers in 480 years. With the Torbalı Station opened on February 6, 2016, the number of stations of İZBAN has reached 38, and the line length has increased from 80 kilometers to 110 kilometers. On September 8, the Selçuk-Torbalı line will be put into service with the participation of Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım. Thus, İZBAN line will have 136 kilometers and 41 stations. In the following period, the line up to Aliağa on the north axis will be extended to Bergama, so that İZBAN will have a 180 km line up to Selçuk.
