Nairobi-Mombasa Railway Line Started Operation

Nairobi-Mombasa Railway Line Started Operation: Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), which connects the capital Nairobi, which is described as the largest project in the country's history, and the coastal city of Mombasa, was opened in the East African country, Kenya.

The railway, which was started 3 years ago by China Road and Bridge Corporation and cost $ 90 billion, 3,2% of which is China Eximbank, will connect South Sudan, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia with the Indian Ocean.

On May 480, Madaraka Express carried the first passenger between the capital Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa on the 30 km Nairobi-Mombasa railway line, which was inaugurated by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

It is reported that the railway, which reduces the distance between Mombasa-Nairobi up to 12 hours to 5 hours, will be operated by China Communications Construction Company. It is stated that the first freight train carrying 59 containers (full capacity 200) will reduce the cost of a 20 ″ container transportation by 30% to the level of 500 dollars. While the new railway line is expected to reduce the Mombasa port load, it is aimed to complete the same line to Uganda by 2021.
