Minister Arslan: "Transportation Problems of Istanbul Are Solved"

Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan's article titled “Transportation Problems of Istanbul” was published in the May issue of Raillife magazine.

Dear passengers, Istanbul is one of the most important production, trade, tourism and cultural centers of our country and a city that is constantly growing with its ever-developing economy. This intensity creates new needs and of course new traffic every day. In order to answer these needs, we have brought to Istanbul giant services such as Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Eurasia Tunnel and Marmaray, each with its own prestige projects. Today, those living in Istanbul realize the positive effects of these works on Istanbul traffic. Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge in particular, and 15 July Martyrs Bridge in the north of the heavy vehicle traffic we shifted. In the same way, we significantly reduced the load on the bridge traffic with the Eurasian Tunnel. However, we never ignore the fact that Istanbul is constantly growing, and for this purpose, we have started the work of the 3 Multi-storey Istanbul Grand Tunnel Project. The Grand Istanbul Tunnel will also serve the road vehicles as in the Eurasian Tunnel, and it will also support the public transportation as it integrates with other rail systems as it has the rail system as it is in Marmaray. We also finish the suburban lines in the Marmaray project in 2018.

We have seen the rail system on Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. However, they do not have connections in Anatolia and the European side yet. We are also launching these works. Then, by extending both the Kınalı side to the Kınalı side and extending the transportation to the Akyazı side, as we shift the intercity transportation to the North, by integrating these systems with the other rail systems, we will have easy travel by changing the line from the station without the need of people to go all over the city.
