The first freight train from England to China is on its way: The 30-wagon train, carrying soft drinks, vitamins and baby care products, will take three weeks to travel about 12 thousand kilometers.
The train departing from the city of Stanford-le-Hope will cross the Channel Tunnel to France.
"CHEAP FROM PLANE, FASTER FROM SHIP"
The journey of the train, which will pass through Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, will end in Yiwu city in eastern China.
DP World London Gateway, the company operating the train, says that rail transport is cheaper than on board, and it is faster than shipping.
SILK ROAD ANIMATION PROJECT
The freight train expedition is part of the "One Belt, One Road" program aimed at reviving China's 2000-year-old Silk Road.
"One Belt" refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt, and "Road" refers to the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, General Manager of DP World, said it was an important "business opportunity".
The first direct freight train service from China to England was made three months ago.
