2016 year that Turkey is obliged to deal with more questions went down in history as an era. While we had to fight with many terrorist organizations at the same time, 15 left behind a year in July with the bloody face of the Fettullah Terrorist Organization, which posed a threat to our country and nation. Hamdolsun, our nation 15 July night, leaving all political views, differences, lifestyles, beliefs, views, belonging aside by standing shoulder to shoulder against the coup attempt, stood up to the chest of the traitor's barrel. In spite of all these adversities and the fierce struggle against them, 2016 was a year in which important projects that we had started before continued and were successfully completed. Osmangazi Bridge, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Eurasia Tunnel and Ilgaz 15 July Independence Tunnel, such as the world biting finger-biting projects, we opened the service.
2017 will be a busy period for us, when we will complete existing projects and implement new projects, and under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, acting with the vision of our Prime Minister, Mr. Binali Yıldırım, will be a year in which we will do our duty in the best possible way. We will lay the foundations of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and continue our giant investments such as the Canal Istanbul and the 3-Storey Tunnel project. We will continue to expand our high-speed train network in railways. We will start transportation on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. We will continue to develop and grow our airline industry with huge investments in 2017. We will continue our efforts towards the North Aegean Çandarlı Port, which will be one of the top 10 ports in Europe in maritime, Filyos Port, which we laid on December 9, and Mersin Container Port. In line with our goal of being an Information Society, we are entering a period in which we will further improve our country's communication. In 2016, we offered 4,5 G technology to the service of our nation. We are now starting the work for 5G. By always increasing our service quality as in previous years; Turkey's development, community development and our republic all necessary in achieving the goals we have set for the 100th anniversary, we will continue to show the effort and determination.
I hope that 2017 will be a year in which hopes on the part of our cherished nation increase, peace dominates the world and feelings of friendship, brotherhood and solidarity gain strength.
