Mayor Kocaoğlu told the projects of transportation to Europeans

Mayor Kocaoğlu explained the transportation projects to the Europeans: In Izmir, where suburban transportation was interrupted due to the strike, the European Regions Council 2016 Autumn General Meeting, hosted by the Metropolitan Municipality, started with the title of 'transportation'. Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu explained the transportation investments in the city to the representatives of 35 European countries.

The event, organized with the theme of 'Sustainable Mobility: A Brand New World' and with the participation of representatives of 35 European countries in the field of transportation, started in İzmir. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the organization, which will last a total of two days, Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu gave information about transportation projects in the city and ongoing investments. Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Aziz Kocaoğlu, who made the opening speech of the European Regions 2016 Autumn General Meeting, emphasized that İzmir is a livable city that continuously improves the quality of life. Explaining the rail system investments and projects of great importance in urban transportation, Kocaoğlu said, “As the local administration of İzmir, we have created a list of priorities within our possibilities in order to achieve sustainable urban development.

We placed the transportation in the first row. In order to minimize fossil fuel consumption in urban transportation, we attach great importance to rail system investments. We have already found 130 kilometers. We work day and night for two separate tram lines on both sides of the city. We want to minimize the tire wheel load in public transportation. We are establishing the biggest electric bus fleet in Europe in İzmir. Our 15 new ships have environmental features. Thanks to the Intelligent Traffic System that we gradually put into practice, the waiting times will be reduced at the intersections. Thus, while reducing air pollution on the one hand, we will also achieve significant savings in fuel. I should also say that we have significantly increased the use of bicycles in the city. The new bicycle paths we opened, the rental bicycle system that attracts great attention and the fact that the bicycles can be transported with the rail system made İzmir a 'bicycle friendly' city. As can be understood from all of this, we are behind our promise to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 percent by 20 ”.

Mayor Kocaoğlu said that the "Floatable Gulf" project is very important for the environment and İzmir. Stating that they will make İzmir Bay a swimable way just like 70-80 years ago by opening circulation channels, Kocaoğlu said, “This will be one of the most important recycling projects of the world, not only in our country. In a new Izmir trip 3-4 years later, you will understand much better what we mean today. You should feel very lucky to witness this change and this transformation in İzmir, one of the most ambitious cities of the Mediterranean. As the local government of İzmir, we can summarize our basic policy as 'not consuming the resources of the future while creating the city of the future'. Because we know that our biggest responsibility is towards future generations. ”

Buğra Gökçe, the Secretary General of the Metropolitan Municipality gave briefing about transportation investments and projects.
