It was stated that a one-day national mourn was declared in memory of those who died in a train accident in Cameroon.
In a written statement from the Presidency, President Paul Biya reportedly declared a day of mourning for about 70 people who lost their lives as a result of the derailment of the passenger train traveling between the capital city of Yaounde and the port city of Douala last week. The statement also noted that the flags will be halved across the country.
In the announcement made on the state radio over the weekend, it was reported that nearly 70 people were killed and about 600 injured in the train accident on Friday.
In his statement on the social networking site Facebook, President Biya stressed that he instructed the authorities to clarify the incident and that emergency centers were established in Yaounde and Douala to support the families of the victims.
Demiryou officials reported that there were a thousand 600 people on the 300 passenger train that traveled between Yaounde and Douala.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
