Number of Female Vaters in Samsun Rail System Will Double: The number of women attendants in the rail system will double: The female vatman (tram driver) working in the light rail system, which was put into service 6 years ago in Samsun, will be increased from 14 to 30. In this context, a course was opened within the scope of on-the-job training program for the newly recruited female coach. 32 women started 744 hours of training.

The Light Rail System, built by Samsun Metropolitan Municipality and put into service on October 10, 2010, has 43 male and 14 female attendants. Samulaş (Samsun Project Transportation İmar İnşaat Yatırım Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.), which operates the Light Rail System, has worked to increase the number of women attendants. A vocational training course was opened within the scope of the on-the-job training program in cooperation with Samulaş, Provincial Directorate of Labor and Employment Agency. During the interview phase, 200 women applied to become light rail trainers. After the elimination, 32 women started the Rail Systems Technology Vatman Vocational Training Course on 15 August. The theoretical as well as practical training was started to be given by Koral Alten, Samulaş Education and Human Resources Chief, to the women participating in the course with 50 percent employment guarantee.

It was stated that at the end of the course that will end on 30 December 2016, 744 trainees who are successful in 16 hours of training will start working in the Light Rail System. Samulaş Operations Manager Sevilay Germi stated that the light rail system provides service with 26 stops on a 20-kilometer route, and said:

“The training of the candidates who attended the course continues now. Especially it was preferred to employ a female vatman. We preferred this because of the increase in the number of female employees and the higher success rates and compliance of female trainers. We also receive positive reactions from citizens towards female residents. This is a profession with high responsibility, but female trainers do it best. "

Machinism and Vatican Father Profession

Hilal Karakaya, a graduate of the Faculty of Business Administration, stated that her grandfather was a retired train mechanic, and that her father was also the officer of a retired train.

“I also have a childhood curiosity about trains because of my grandfather and father's profession. When I heard that this course was opened, I wanted to do my grandfather's job and applied. We started the course, it is going very well. We are very excited and I want to complete the course as soon as possible. The lives of approximately 300 people in the rail system are entrusted to you. It is a very serious business that needs to be very careful. We are also aware of the heavy responsibility of the job. "

Sümeyye Tomar, who stated that she is a graduate of the Child Development Department and preferred to work as an educator instead of working in kindergartens or kindergartens, said, “I was enthusiastic and happy when I saw the women educators. I said why not do it and was chosen. My mother also applied, but she could not be elected because she could not fully meet those conditions. It is a difficult profession but I believe I will do it. I could have been a kindergarten teacher, but I find myself more prone to this profession. "I was going to take care of the kids, but now I will be a train driver."
