Azerbaijan evaluates financing for railway construction in Iran

Azerbaijan is evaluating financing for railway construction in Iran: President of Azerbaijan Railways Agency, Javid Gurbanov, stated that Azerbaijan and Iran are evaluating 3 ways of financing for the construction of the Reşt-Astara railway, which is a part of the North-South transportation corridor.
Expressing that an investment of 900 million dollars is needed for the construction of the Reşt-Astara railway in line with the calculations of the Iranian side, Gurbanov explained that Azerbaijan has not yet made examinations on the calculations.
Gurbanov said, “We requested the project documents from the Iranian side. We will present them to the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Emergency Situations. It will be evaluated and presented to the head of government. Azerbaijan is ready to provide financial support to Iran for the construction of the project. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is expected to meet in Baku on 8-10 August. We will try to prepare for the signing of the agreements by that date. " said.
Gurbanov stated that the way the financing will be provided will be determined as a result of the negotiations.
Gazvin-Reşt-Astara railway line, which will connect Europe and Central Asia with the Persian Gulf, will also provide connection to the Caucasus region with the Astara (Iran) - Astara (Azerbaijan) railway bridge. The project will become an important part of the North-South Transport Corridor.
