India's New Bullet Train Will Go Underwater: The bullet train, which will travel on a 500-kilometer route, will cross Virar with a 20-kilometer underwater corridor in Thane stream.
When it comes to improving the train system, India is getting ready for its first high-speed train and the new bullet train will also travel underwater. The Japan International Cooperation Agency, financing the project, announced that the bullet train, which will travel on the 500-kilometer route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, will switch to Virar with a 20-kilometer underwater corridor in Thane stream.
The journey on the train, which can reach 350 km per hour, is expected to take approximately two hours. The only train line that currently connects two cities is the 7 hour-long Duranto Express.
The project, which is planned to be operational at the end of 2018, is similar to the new Japanese bullet train (shinkansen) traveling between Tokyo and Hakodate and underwater using the Seikan Tunnel.
