The Canal Istanbul Project, which is considered as an alternative to the Bosphorus, will be implemented on the European side of the city. It will be completed as an artificial waterway between the Black Sea and the Sea of ​​Marmara in order to relieve the ship traffic in the Bosporus, which is currently an alternative gateway between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The depth of the channel will be 25 meters. With this channel, the Bosphorus will be closed to tanker traffic. Two new peninsulas and a new island will be created in Istanbul. The survey studies of the project continue.
