Binali Yıldırım, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, made examinations at the Izmit Bay Crossing Bridge and Orhangazi Samanlı viaducts built within the scope of the Istanbul-Izmir Highway. Stating that they have built the fourth largest bridge in the world, Minister Yıldırım said, “We will open the 40-kilometer section, which is the Yalova-İzmit connection, in the coming days. Istanbul and Crossing Bridge section will end on May 10. We will complete our project at the end of the year, ”he said.
12 BILLION WILL EXCEED LIRA
Stating that the total cost of the highway and bridge is 30 billion TL, Yıldırım said, “12 billion TL has been spent on the bridge, tunnel and road works so far. When the road is completely finished, transportation from Istanbul to Izmir will be completed in 3 hours. When the project is completed, Marmara and Aegean Regions will be connected to each other ”. Saying that they are looking forward to the day when the world's fourth largest bridge will be opened, Yıldırım said, “We are planning to open our doors towards the end of May. Our citizens will pass from here. They say this place is expensive. However, it will be seen that this place is not expensive compared to alternative departures ”.
COMPETITION FOR NAME CAN BE OPENED
Minister Yıldırım said the following about the name to be given to the bridge: “The name of the bridge will be named after our nation, our past and one of our elders or settlements who have contributed greatly to the development of the country. Maybe we can open a contest about the name. The name given to the public is important. But such a name should be given here that it should direct the future of the country from the past, to ensure the progress of the nation. "
