For the enlargement of Derince Port, the Governorship did not even require the EIA: 39 thousand square meters of filling will be made to the sea to enlarge Derince Port, whose operating rights have been transferred to a private company for $ 543 million for 400 years. 'EIA positive report required'
Hayri Altunok, President of Hereke Environment Association, claimed that it is against the law not to require an EIA report for a huge project. Altunok said: “There is a need for a 'EIA is positive' document for each filling over 10 thousand square meters. A new legislation came out, supposedly that some projects could be exempted from EIA. But these are for public investments. "
