Iran commenced construction of North-South railway project

Iran started construction of the North-South railway project: Iran started the construction of its own part of the railway line that will connect the country to Russia and Azerbaijan.
Construction of the Iranian section of the North-South railway line connecting Russia and Azerbaijan to Iran was started.
According to the news agency Azeri Trend, Iran's ambassador to Baku, Mohsen Pakayin made statements about the subject. The Iranian diplomat said the construction of the new railway line was being carried out at an accelerated pace.
The Iranian Ambassador said, “The section of the line between Iran and Azerbaijan will be completed this year, and the Qazvin-Rasht section will be completed in 2017. At the same time, the construction of the Raşt-Astara railway will also be made ”.
The total cost of the Kazvin-Rasht-Astara line, which is part of the North-South project, which will connect Northern Europe with South-East Asia and is expected to be part of the Iranian, Azerbaijani and Russian railway lines, was announced as 400 million dollars.
According to current estimates, the annual capacity of the railroad will be 1,4 million passengers and five million to seven million tons of cargo. 22 tunnel and 15 bridge will be built on the new railway line.
The first step of the North-South railway line is planned to carry six million tons of cargo per year and 15-20 million tons per year in the future.
