350 million dollar investment in Derince Port

An investment of 350 million dollars in Derince Port: An additional investment of 543 million dollars will be made in Derince Port, which belongs to TCDD General Directorate and has been privatized for 39 years at a price of 350 million dollars. Safiport Derince Port General Manager Güre said, “The investments we made for privatization and the machinery-equipment we will make, infrastructure investments are over 1 billion dollars. Our goal is to be the number 1 in Europe. ”
The Republic of Turkey State Railways General Directorate (TCDD), owned and operating rights for 39 years for Safi Derince International Port Management AŞ transferred to Derince port, $ 350 million will be invested, employment in the completion of the working harbor will reach 2 thousand 500 people.
A press conference was held at Safiport Derince Port regarding the works carried out since Safi Derince International Port Management Inc. has received the port and planned in the future.
Safiport Derince Advisor to the Chairman of the Board Erkan Dereli said that Derince Port is one of the most established ports in the country.
Reminding that they made a bid of 39 million dollars in the tender for the privatization of Derince Port with the method of granting the right to operate for 543 years, Dereli stated that they received the port on 2 March 2015 by paying the entire amount in advance.
Dereli said, “According to the tender specifications, we have made an agreement to invest an additional 420 thousand square meters and to deliver it to TCDD, the real owner of the port, 39 years later. As Safi International Port Management Inc., we will start making our investments within a month for a system that will integrate the sea, land and railway to establish an intermodal port, as included in the government's action plan, program and tender conditions. ”
Stating that there are currently around 400 employees at the port, Dereli said, “According to the planning we have made, this number will be around 2 when our investments are completed. As a principle decision, we aimed to employ the people of our region in our port. Safiport Derince Port will become an intermodal logistics center with an investment of 500 million dollars ”.

Safiport Derince General Manager Şeyda Güre stated that they gave importance to occupational health and safety after taking over the port and emphasized that they did not experience any accidents in the last year.
Expressing that they have taken all the control of the port Güre, said:
“After entering from the port, we have all the authority. Previously, the fields were given to 5-6 companies and these people were doing all the transactions. TCDD was only giving docks, all other operations and operations belonged to those companies. We have all the controls right now. While 10 thousand tons of ships were handled in this port in 10 days before us, it is now handled in 30-32 hours. Our movement on a ro-ro ship is 4 thousand 200 pieces. The company we do is Hyundai, export and import. The number we handle on average hours is 130-150 vehicles. Our investments are very heavy. Infrastructure investments with the money we give to privatization and the machinery and equipment we will make are over 1 billion dollars. Our goal is to be the number 1 in Europe. ”
