Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which recently decided to raise drinking water by 5 percent and parking fees by 50 kurus to 1 lira, came to Izmir as a bad surprise before the New Year. The Metropolitan Municipality decided to update the bus, metro, ferry and İZBAN timetables in 2016. According to the newly determined tariff, public transportation costs will be increased between 10 and 15 cents. Accordingly, the full ticket was increased from 2.25 lira to 2.40 lira, student ticket from 1.25 lira to 1.35 lira, and the teacher tariff from 1.60 lira to 1.75 lira. Those who used 60 age cards from the increased tariff also got their share. Accordingly, the 115 age card, which was 60 TL, was increased by 10 TL to 125 TL. The draft fee schedule prepared by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's public transportation company ESHOT was sent to the commissions at the council meeting yesterday evening. If the wage tariff is accepted as it is, it will be voted according to the report from the plan and budget commission at the council meeting to be held tomorrow. If the tariff is approved, the new tariff will enter into force as of January 1, 2016. With the new year, Izmirians will benefit from public transportation vehicles such as buses, metro, city ferry lines and İZBAN with an increase.

DRAFT TARIFF READY
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has now decided to raise public transportation after a 2016 percent increase for drinking water, 5 kurus for indoor and outdoor parking lots in the city and 50 lira in the fiscal year 1, which was discussed and decided upon in the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The public transportation service, which 1.8 million citizens benefit from every day in İzmir, will be increased from the new year in line with the decision taken by the Metropolitan Municipality. The General Directorate of ESHOT prepared a new draft tariff for 2016 after İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu's statement on a television channel that “we do not raise public transportation and water without relying on a knife bone”. The draft tariff, which was learned to have been approved by Mayor Kocaoğlu, was sent to the plan and budget commission at the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Assembly meeting held yesterday evening. According to the draft schedule sent to the plan and budget commission, an average of 6.67 percent increase was envisaged for boarding fees for public transportation vehicles such as buses, subways, ferries and İZBAN.

The municipal buses operating in the district outside the metropolitan area also received their share of the transportation increase. Citizens who want to benefit from this service will also pay 6.67 more than the new year. The new fee schedule will be finalized at the Metropolitan Municipal Assembly Meeting to be held tomorrow. The report to be prepared by the plan budget commission will be put to vote in the Metropolitan Municipality Council. If the commission report is accepted, the increased tariff will come into effect as of January 1, 2016. Thus, after the drinking water and parking fees, the people of İzmir will enter the new year with an increase in public transportation.
